Beta carotene is one of more than 500 caretenoid compounds found in nature.  When ingested, beta carotene converts into vitamin A which is vital for healthy vision, growth, reproduction, and immunity.

Beta carotene is also used in food products as a natural colorant.  Products which may include beta carotene for coloring purposes are cheese, ice cream, soups, margarine, beverages, oils, and baking products.

Kuraray produces a synthetic form of beta carotene in a crystalline form and as a 30% dispersion in corn oil.
